The MUSC Children's Hospital is the most comprehensive pediatric healthcare center in South Carolina. Recently, Child Magazine ranked our emergency department as the ninth best in the country and U.S. News & World Report consistently ranks the MUSC Children’s Hospital as one of the top 30 Children’s Hospitals in the country. In order to further our success in providing the best treatments, in 2005 we built the Darby Children's Research Institute. It is the largest and most comprehensive pediatric research facility in the Carolinas and one of only 15 research centers for children in the nation. In just five years of operation, the Institute has had more than 500 new discoveries. This center has significantly bridged the gap between research and patient care, providing our patients with access to the most advanced treatments as soon as they become available, not months or years later.

The proceeds from the Reindeer Run have played a major role in facilitating the development of programs within the Children's Hospital and the Darby Children's Research Institute. These funds have been utilized to support research in the prevention and treatment of childhood diseases and to support the development of treatment programs within the Department of Pediatrics. This includes the recruitment of specialized physicians in order to expand the range of treatment available to the community and support the Child Life Division of the Hospital with toys, games, art supplies and other materials to entertain children and make their visit more pleasant.

No child, rich or poor, is denied the finest care available. Many are facing serious, chronic, congenital or life-threatening conditions yet, thanks to this care, they are able to hope for a brighter tomorrow. All of this is made possible through the generosity of private donors in the community, who give unselfishly, knowing their families may never need our help. For an additional $20, you can sponsor a local underprivledged child that desires to participate in the Reindeer Run. Each year children are invited to participate. Each of them receive complimentary race t-shirts, antlers and Christmas prizes. They are able to have a fun & festive day because of generous people like you.
